Biography

A man sitting in a dark room in his chair by his desk, reading intensely under the light of a desk lamp, with one hand holding his chin.

Hello, I am Dr. Santos (aka: Marakaja). I am born and bred in Brazil but now living in England for a long time. I had the opportunity to graduate in Biomedical Sciences from Oxford Brookes University in 2015 which I quickly developed a great passion for neuroscience during my studies. Straight after that I started a Masters project in neuroscience from University of Southampton to investigate microglia dynamics in models of neurodegeneration. Straight after my Master’s graduation in 2016, I had a greater opportunity to start a PhD project to investigate how sleep and experience influences protein synthesis in the brain of rodents at University of Surrey. After concluding my doctorate in 2021 I started to explorer the industry of clinical trial management. However after some time I realise that was bench side research its what I really gravitated towards to. Since 2023 I have started a postdoctoral research in the neuroscience department of the University of Cambridge to investigate the role of dopamine in hippocampal-dependent navigation and reward.

Disclaimer: My intention is not just to share science news but primarily to share my perspective about different facts of life that is not exclusively neuroscience but also subjects such as astronomy, immunology, psychology, whatever randomly appear in my head.
